Unfortunately my MyBook has died at the moment :( so it's slow work.

Steps where I hit snags:

Create an AWS Volume

ssh complained about the lax permissions on my identity file, so I had to:

 $ chmod 600 id_rsa-gsg-keypair 

The ami-1a5db973 AMI works for me in the US, but I had to add SSH to my default security group before I could connect to it. In the Management Console, click Security Groups on the left, select default, and add the SSH connection method as a custom rule.

The volume needed to be formatted. I'd recommend just following the help for Volumes to accomplish this.

Create a script…

I replaced /home/gordon in one instance of a path to the id_rsa-gsg-keypair file. The others used a ~, which didn't work in the script, maybe because of my shell configuration. I just made them all /home/<me>/.ec2/id_rsa-gsg-keypair.

It takes about a seven tries to get console output. I thought maybe it wasn't working, but I was just impatient.

I'm not sure if the aws detach-volume command is working. I get output like:

That's all. It helped to be familiar with Linux and shell scripting to fix the snags. I've never used rsync before though, or AWS, and I wouldn't have gotten through it without the guide!

The day I tried to download the firmware it did not work. May be the web was down or some kind of internet access problem.

Trying to find out why, I tried accessing http:///download/MBWE/MBWE-Get-In-test directly.

There appears a screen that says yo may make a paypal donations.

That made me think that the problem was you needed to be looged in in your web.

As you can read in above messages, I was not the only one that had troubles and got the same impression.

I had tried to download it yesterday and it worked properly.

Anyway getting an account in your web would be great and making a donation is a good thing, it is a reward to your effort and the way to give you thanks for it.

The Web Server Feature Pack (Core features for the Blue Ring Mybook ) is also available freely.

You probably encountered a network error or a mispelling when trying to apply the Hack.

i am very sorry that you had this bad experience and that you feel this , as it is really not the case.

The core features are free, donation is only needed for other feature packs like MybookClone or some other small features.

I'm using system 4.2. I can't find mplayer 0.76 - do you mean 0.75?

Not quite sure what other homebrew apps I would need. mplayer seems to work fine if i put vids on sd card, just cant reliably stream over wireless from mybook. Do i need any particular cios?

I do have a lockup every now and then but not often, last one was about 2 weeks ago. What is the system version of your Wii? I am using 4.2 with mplayer 0.76 and it is working great. Just make sure you have all the needed homebrew apps installed that are needed and you shoulde be fine.

I guess you've got it working though - which Wii player do you use?

And the answer was simple.. thanks to reply of one user on this forum, I realised that I didnt set gateway and dns.. so MyBook cannot connect anywhere for firmware. Now ssh working great..

so.. SOLVED :)

Bitrate is about 700kbs. Video plays fine for a while, but then picture freezes and about 3 seconds later audio also stops. Wii has to be switched off to reset. I'm using MPlayer CE v0.75.

Hopefully I make some progress, but now I am almost stuck. I wondered why is it returning "no firmware" statement and I set harddisks to raid1 (mirror) (so hopefully data on both are same (including firmware)), and connected one to computer using r-studio for reading partitions.
At first, i didnt find folder named "auth" or file named "firmware_upgrade.pl" on any Ext3fs partition (it seems, that these file is somehow created or extracted when mybook starting), so I opened SWAP partition for at lest ANSI reading and found some file called firmware_upgrade.pm and firmware_progress.pm (second one is less interesting, but could be good to know what is happening after download). First file seems to handle all the way to download new firmware.

My questions are:
1. Why is there no folder "auth" or file "firmware_upgrade.pl"? (are they created when mybook starts?)
2. How must I change firmware.php and latestfw.sh to get working "ssh enable" again? (I will probably figure it out, but in a very long time without help of skilled Pearl programmer (for "firmware_upgrade.pm") and experienced MyBook users).

I think that there will be more users with this problem later, when they upgrade to 02.00.19 and I would like to help
to solve this issue.

Update:
Script in "firmware_upgrade.pm" automaticaly add "/list.asp" at the end of fwserver parametr. That is probably first problem.
For example:
you call http://192.168.1.249/auth/firmware_upgrade.pl?fwserver=martin.hinner.info/mybook/firmware.php
and stript trying to call http://192.168.1.249/auth/firmware_upgrade.pl?fwserver=martin.hinner.info/mybook/firmware.php/list.asp

Also is there a script to check a version of firmware:

this is just a part, whole script is much longer, begin on row 109 and ends on 160 in firmware_upgrade.pm file.

which is everytime followed by "There is no new firmware available" response from WD.
It seems that in this firmware, WD added some check to recognise if you are uploading real firmware or some other stuff..

What I should do?

I can gt my WII connected to the Mybook (blue rings) and play videos, but the video and sound always freezes after what seems like a random time (sometimes seconds, sometimes minutes) Anybody else had this problem and managed to fix it? Is it likely to be Wii, mybook, or wireless network problems?
