Hi angiolin,
as i understand, you encounter some isssues with the last transmission version 1.76-1 of Transmission.
if you have a WhiteLight Mybook, and you use featurepacks for transmission configuration, you can revert to a previous version :

1) uninstall the Transmission Feature Pack by clicking the uninstall button

2) go to the system Configuration menu / FeaturePacks

then select manual install of feature pack,
copy paste the following url

http://highlevelbits.free.fr/download-MBWEW/TROLD61a/Transmission.tar
then click the GET button.

3) this should install the old transmission v1.61 + hotfixes which was known to be stable.

Regards,

Did a cleanup of my active torrents on the weekend, one by one to see if any of them in particular was causing a problem. Private tracker, single file torrents with 3-500 ish peers/seeds didn't affect anything. A public tracker, single file torrent with thousands of peers/seeds didn't make any difference.

When I deleted a torrent, private tracker with a bunch of files, with many set to skip, everything settled down and ran properly. Now I thought that was the cause, but then I realised the one remaining torrent is the same scenario - same private tracker, many component files, most set to skip, the rest is seeding.

So I don't know what the issue is - limiting the number of connections doesn't seem to affect the sluggish performance much (it does affect memory usage though).

If I get some time I'll try getting the same torrent that I thought was causing the issue and see if it happens again… Not going to hold my breathe though.

I'm having problems too installing the RSS downloader. I must say kyyhkynen's tutorials are amazingly easy to follow and even a complete newbie like me can apply them, but:
If I try to compile the XMLStarlet Myself, in the .configure…. part, I get an "access denied error". I solved it with

chmod a=x configure

(found it on google, I'm really newbie in linux).

Then, in the make check part, I get several "../src/xml: can't load library 'libxslt.so.1'" and FAILED.
when I run #xml, I get:
xml: can't load library 'libxslt.so.1'

So I gave a chance to perl: the wget commands are wrong? If I delete the "perl" word, they do download and work until the "perl Makefile.pl…" part. It doesn't understand the "perl" command.

The script kinda does something. It checks for the links I put in the tvrss folder, but it doesn't find nothing… I tried even the example in the tutorial, without results.

They sound to me like newbie questions, I'm sure I'm forgetting something, so if someone can please help me, I'll appreciate.
Damian

I gotta add a +1 here also. I definitely noticed it in 1.75 (as I remember thinking maybe an upgrade would fix some unresponsiveness I was having), and just the last few days, the sluggish performance has been showing up big time in 1.76. With a bunch of torrents in there (10 or so), it is pretty much unusable at the moment.

Hopefully there is a fix soon.

Yes, there you go:
http://trac.transmissionbt.com/wiki/PreviousReleases

I have not made up my mind on doing this, but I would simply remove the old one with optware:
/opt/bin/ipkg remove transmission

Then … humm. Build from source, follow the description? Or does optware have options for using older versions? Any smart people?

Uhm, this is supposed to work on the MBWE itself, right? Authentication does not work for me. At first, it just reacted:

[root@MarkiWD64 bin]# transmission HTTP Error 401: Unauthorized

Then I inserted the username and the password (the ones in JSON, and yes, I checked them 3 times, notably by running transmission-remote straight afterwards) - and still the same thing. Python is completely new to me, so… question. Do I need to recompile the script, or is there some other problem? I like the idea of having such a great tool inside a simple SSH console - but it does not work. I would be really greatful if you could give me a hand in getting it to run.

Cheers,
J

I'm not 100% sure about this, but the performance seems to be much more sluggish when a particular active torrent has thousands of seeds and leechers. When there are only hundreds (or less) of seeds and leechers, it seems to run more stable.

Can anyone else confirm this?

Would having more seeds/leechers cause instability. Could this result in transmission trying to make too many "connections"? Is there a way to limit the "connections"?

Hey Frater, thanks for the excellent script. It's working great for me. The only issue I have is that it is not automatically deleting the *.torrent.transmission files in the watchdog folder after max seedtime or max ratio is reached. It removes the torrents from transmission's list, but those files still remain. Is there any way to make them delete those as well?

I upgraded from Transmission 1.72 to 1.76 on my bluelight via Optware a couple weeks ago. It works perfectly right after starting up, but after a day or so it gets really sluggish and unresponsive. At that point, if I login and do a "transmission-remote -l", it sometimes takes a couple minutes to return the status, and it takes a similarly long time for web interface to load. At that point I'm pretty sure it has stopped downloading, and the program has crashed/hung up. I have it set up so that only one torrent is active at a time (the rest are stopped), so its not like I'm over-taxing the system.

Has anyone seen similar issues. I didn't have this problem with earlier versions. I now set up the box to stop and restart transmission daily. I might have to increase the frequency of stops and restarts.
