I use a WD EX4 Mycloud as my main server in my house with my PC at the moment using Utorrent. I checked out Transmission, but it seems very limited, but I am aware that it can be added too.

My downloads (Movies) usually have long and weird names, and I wish to be able to rename these to a more understandable name, but retain the original for seeding purposes.

So my viewing directory on my TV would have the name I wish to see it as, ie "Exodus" but transmission would see the same files as EX.1.fredsmith.BlueDisk.720.mkv

I and wish to end up with one file with two names.

I am not a programmer, and I am retired , so looking to utilise my WD space to 1 file, instead of 2.

Can anyone help me, please?
John

also, I assume your running it as root… I had issues with btsync not being able to create it's pidfile, it did take me some time tinkering with it,

(and I looked it up in the forum and the WBWE white is a ARM)
and the btsync betas have no error messages, at least for now. so it won't point you to the problem.

you could check the storage folder that it creates by default, next to the program when you run it the first time, there should be a basic log in there, sync.log or something.

I just noticed this topic…. does the world edition use a PPC processer or arm…. I know that my MyBookLive 3TB, uses a PPC processor…. so the PPC build of 1.1.70 btsync works, ….. it did take a bit to get the permissions and btsync.conf correct….

but I've had btsync running fine on mine for at least 3 months….
I even wrote a shitty script to re-install after a firmware update.

also…. btsync by default runs in daemon mode….. you should check top to make sure it's not still running when you think it died.

I made it run for like 5 seconds under WD firmware with optware, then it died. So i'm pretty sure you'll need a MBL instead. Maybe using debian wheezy will do the trick for all of us.

Hi all,
This is my first post (ever!). I have been trying for a while now to get a backup solution for all my devices (iphones, ipads, mac, macbook, laptop with ubuntu and WD devices etc). I have managed to learn some linux basics and its been great fun. So far I have tried owncloud, crashplan and finally bittorrent sync (BTS). I like the latter cause of its simplicity, although its still a sync not true backup??. My main hub is a raspberry pi converted into a NAS attached to a 4 TB hard disk. I have installed BTS .. works fine with most devices so far. Only one which if works … WD MBWE (white light).. would be ultimate. So yes I am seeking the same answer as 19feet and Amit … Is it possible ??

I downloaded ARM version of BitTorrent Sync, copied it to root folder, loged in as root an started it with ./btsync. But I cannot access BitTorrent Sync with WebGUI via YourLocalIP:8888/gui.

Does anyone know how to run BitTorrent Sync on WD MyBook World Edition (White line)?

Sorry m8, as I said, complete noob here… How do you compile from source?

I would just tell the tracker to do one but the problem is that once any of my downloads complete I can see by looking at the transmission client that I am no longer down downloading but when I look at the stats for my downloaded torrents on the tracker the amount of data downloaded keeps going up… I am assuming that it is because this version of transmission is not supported by the tracker in question… I might be wrong though.

Greetings

Without sufficient forethought, I upgraded firmware MyBook World Edition White Lights. I DID NOT backup optware. Now I need Transmission, but the current optware 2.61 is not yet approved by my tracker.

I have located the source, and I can probably work out how to cross-compile and thus install a previous version of Transmission.

However, if someone has the ipk file for Transmission version 1.93, 2.00, of 2.33 that would save me the time and trouble.

On the other hand, wrestling through the problem could improve my discretion :) Though, I fear this is more of a character issue on my part than simply poor habits!

I found transmission_2.01-1_arm.ipk but I don't understand the errors when I try to run it after install. The install seems fine; I've tried both clean install and downgrade from the current 2.61 version. Each install reports good, shows no errors; but, when I run I get this:

~ # transmission-daemon /opt/bin/transmission-daemon: /opt/bin/transmission-daemon: 3: 4?4: not found /opt/bin/transmission-daemon: /opt/bin/transmission-daemon: 3: cannot open : No such file /opt/bin/transmission-daemon: /opt/bin/transmission-daemon: 3: ELF?B>k%ilj4sPhW???x???I9{:??nm1~?? b?rQ?UDNJ5qJ]pԓ??Ѫ?e??ě*!??}zE???T0?#?[ ?;????ʺ?S??@???"???٣?|Y? L???.?DH7@4?A0: not found /opt/bin/transmission-daemon: /opt/bin/transmission-daemon: 1: Syntax error: word unexpected (expecting ")") ~ #

Any and all help will be appreciated. A bit of trolling will be considered fair treatment for being such a dufus.
