Question:

Assume I have a problem with my WBII that I want to discuss - chances being that some other poor sod has seen the same exact thing, and might be able to help - if nothing else than helping me cry in my beer. ( :-) )

The "Forums" list doesn't capture any of this - it's not a "networking" question - I have not tried to "add software" to the thing yet. It has not rolled-over-dead (at least I hope not!) But I have a problem, and there does not seem to be a "OH $%*&#!!" category for people, like me, who may have done something stupid - or maybe it's a simple fix.

I can create threads, but I cannot create fora - so I am left with placing my thread in the "pages" forum hoping that I'm not stepping on someone's toes, or setting myself up for a searing flame-mail from some idiot with more authority than brains.

Hopefully you see / understand the issue and can help shed some light on this.

Thanks!

Jim

Could we make a signature (or something similar) like in other forums for every user? I've seen a lot of posts with questions about the used MBWE and firmware version.
I think it would be easier and faster to answer if you have this information available every time.

Something like this at the end of the post

MBWE II, 2x 500 GB Firmware 01.01.18 Raid 1 Hacks: SSH, spindown

But this should be displayed automatically. If this is not possible perhaps we can write it into our profile (for example pls. have a look at my profile ).

Suggestions are welcome!

Regards,
JpgOrganizer

MBWE II, 2x 500 GB
Firmware 01.01.18
Raid 1
Hacks: SSH, spindown

Ok.. i'm very very sorry… but had to say it !
Few months ago i bought a my book and discovered this wiki ! Very very usefull for the first steps and all the infos, then i saw this forum. I spend quitem uch time on forums, for gathering infos, posting questions and sometimes answering and i hope helping the others… but i had to say this forum is VERY VERY VERY disorganized…
people asking questions about the same problems, and always adding new posts !!! i can't blame you, at the beginning i do the same thing, but all i see is that there are PLENTY of post on cups, sometimes the same questions are coming back and back… and me first, i think people don't want to answer anymore… I'm taling about cups cause i had problems too to install it, but i see this the same for others subjects ! ( web access, nfs shares, twonky, etc.)

I don't want to look like someone who is critising only.. but i'm very disappointed about that cause i think forums are VERY VERY helpfull for all of us.. there are always a bunch of things you don't know.. and there are always at least one personn who can answer to you !

Sorry for this post, but i had to say it !

Sorry people, I know this is way off-topic, but that's exactly the problem.
I can only post to some of the categories of the forum, but not to the 'new' ones.
We really need a special category, where we can discuss things like this.
Z80

well i thought something like this would be nice

Forum

Optware

(Remote) access (ftp, telnet, ssh, samba & other things)

Torrenting

installing and configuring other programs

modifying the WD linux installation (fw upgrade , kernel modules ..)

installing other OS on mybook (debian & etc.)

Talk about the site

discussion about the wiki & forums

as you can see this is very basic and i could use better titles. All suggestions welcome!

I'd like to see how many people are browsing the forum at once, so I can see whether I can expect to get an answer sometime soon. It's a pretty common feature on most forums, buit this one completely lacks it. Is there anyway to do that?

Hi all

I have opened this up so you no longer need to register with wikidot to modify the site … please feel free to start adding your guides and tutes to the site … I will try and keep the structure tidy but it is pretty easy to use the syntax on here to modify stuff. If anyone has any problems I will do my best to help out.

Thanks

Sam
