Any experiences about commenting those min/hourly/daily crons? Is it safe? is it enough just to comment the lines or do I have to move those jobs to weecly cron line?

Thanks,

I'll comment out the min and hourly (and probably the daily) cron's. I only need it for the weekly backup.

I'll let you know how I go after the current backup is finished.

The reason is cron.
It's making logfiles if it starts "run-parts"…
I've asked bzhou to enable -L as a parameter for cron.
It will then make no log files….

You can also edit /opt/etc/crontab and "comment" the lines you don't need…. (/etc/cron.min?)

When I'm home I will experiment with the busybox "crond".
Maybe it doesn't do this logging…..

On my bluering I replaced logging with syslog-ng
I can then control the logging (busybox logging can't)

Easiest is a revised cron…

iKarampa,

Any chance of a bit more information on how to move the log files onto the Ram disk, and which ones to move.

I've run Frater's script, and wouldn't mind getting the thing to go back to sleep.

Hi,

I have a white light 1TB and it goes into sleep mode after roughly 10mins of inactivity. If you decide to hack it make sure you move all your log files into the ram disk.

I don't access my WDWE so often, so I'm quite happy with my blue ring version with working smart_spindown script. Now I'm buying white light version and wonder, is smart_spindown script necessary anymore e.g does whitelight version go to sleep regurarly when not accessed?

BTW, is smart_spindown script even compatible with whitelight version or can I brick my whitelight with that script?

thanks in advance
