I have the same problem with my Squeezebox Radio 7.7.2.

Just edit the version number of my Squeezecenter from 7.3.3 to 7.7.2. The Number should not be higher than the Squeezebox Radio. Otherwise, the Radio "need" an update.

You find the version number in
/opt/share/squeezecenter/slimserver.pl
at Line 215
our $VERSION = '7.7.2';

I got it running again, this time I disabled mysqueezebox.com integration, hopefully it will work also after unplugging :)

The web interface is on port 9001, probably because i did not reconfugre twnoky, but i think I stopped it, I am not a linux guru

After plugging out the player and plugging it back in, it again says that the server need to be updated.

I just bought my Squeezebox Radio. I did averything as described earlier, Installed sqeezeboxcenter 7.3 on my MBWE and created the slimserver user and user group as described. I was disappointed to see that the Sqeezebox radio did not want to connect to the server, with the error message 'Server need to be upgraded'.

The connection to the IP address of my MBWE was saved in the list. I left the server running on my MBWE.

I added another IP address for a remote library, my Laptops IP, running Logitech Media Center 7.7

On my laptop, using the browser interface, 127.0.0.1:9000, I played around with the web interface.

In the settings menu, where the remote library are specified, in the browser window, there where both connections (my laptop's IP and my MBWE's IP).

Just out of curiosity I tried to change the remote library to the IP address of my MBWE.

After saving the settings, the web interface lodaed from the IP of the MBWE. The sqeezebox went silent, the screen on the Sqeezebox changed to the firmware update menu (not the update screen, the update manu, where I could select help on update and diagnostics). No other function was accessible for 1-2 min. After which a new menu appeard, Update to firmware 7.7, or something like that, I did not activate it.

The web interface in the browser slowly loaded, I selected music library on the MBWE, it scanned it slowly.

The Sqeezebox lost all its settings (name and the two favorite internet radio stations i set up), and as it seems to me the internet radio menu changed a bit (although I am not sure of this, I had it for 4 hours).

The info screen on the squeezebox still says that it has firmware 7.7

Bottom line: IT WORKS!

Try it and let me know.

I also have a WDMBWE White and after several google, found nothing for it on how to install SqueezeCenter.
As a perfect linux newbie I don"t want to brick my NAS.

Maybe somebody have found a way ? can you share with us with a nice explanation ?

Unfortunately the MB Live uses Debian and the instructions are for the Debian Aptitude package manager.

I've looked on the web, but cannot find anything on this. I got my current Squeezebox server version through the Optware package.

Would really appreciate any help on this.

Took me only a couple of hours. (haven´t touched anything unix like in years. Enabled SSH and downloaded and installed a SSH terminal ( PUTTY) and an editor, connected to the Mybook WE II and followed your instructions. Worked right away. A bit slow, particular with the artwork but works fine.

Only issue is that the version of Squeezecenter on optware is 7.3.3. My Squeezebox Duet works fine but my newer Squeezebox radio won´t connect and complains that the Server software need to be updated.

Any idea how to install a newer version of Squeezecenter on the Mybook?

I wouldn't worry if it says the user name already exists or the folder already exists. I just wasn't sure exactly what needed to be created as my box now has been reconfigured a number of times now. One this that needs to happen for sure is chmod 777 /home. If that doesn't happen squeezecneter wasn't able to create any files in the child directories which seems odd. Maybe there's a better way but I couldn't find one.

Does any one know how to make a tutorial page for this? It might be useful.

As for how it runs its not too bad. I compared it to running it on my 1.2GHz via box and while its slower its still kinda slow on my other box.

Also note that it needs to run on port 9001 since Twonky runs on 9000.

-If I can get it working it will probably be slow
-While some have gotten the slimserver package working it doesn't seem like anyone has gotten squeezecenter working

Here's what I've tried:

First I installed squeezecenter:

# ipkg install squeezecenter

that seems to install squeezecenter and all of its components.

I then tried the obvious:

# /opt/etc/init.d/S99squeezecenter start

which appears to work, with an output of:

Starting SlimServerSlimserver daemon started OK. PID is 6930.

. When I check the status right after sometimes it will say that its running but it will eventually quit and I'll get:

I looked at the log file and only found a problem with the IPDetect.pm file, but that seems to be benign as it still returns the proper ip address:
