You can upgrade direct from 5 to 7, you will have a 30 days trial.

If you're happy with 7 version, you will need to purchase key after 30 days (which is the same as 6 key).

I am trying to upgrade from Twonky 5 to twonky 7, using the above instructions (have reached step 7).

Should I be upgrading to Twonky6 first and getting a license key?

You need to create directory used by twonky to store temp files :

mkdir /var/twonky

After that you can start Twonky

I've read and followed the perfect explanation of sr_sparky but now I'm getting the same error: "Twonky Version 7.0.5
Current time [Startup] - LOG_SYSTEM: upnp_ini_file_init_DATA_Dir : AppData folder - /var/twonky/TwonkyServer - cannot be accessed or not writable.".

Where did you locate the new folders tree /var/twonky/? On the root? On /twonky7? Many thanks for your help.

P.S.: I'm upgrading directly from Twonky 5 to 7. Any other hint to do that? I'm a totally noob on Linux so I need everything explained step by step.

in S97twonkyserver change these two to 0 (disable) as per below.

One thing I noticed is that the number of processes running for twonky seems to have increased and, since this nas has very little RAM, maybe it's overwhelmed. Is anyone else observing this issue? I tried to find out if there are any settings to tweak but I cannot find them anywhere. That .ini file seems to be protected or encrypted or in binary format and I can't see much less change any settings there.

I'm guessing that I either have put something in the wrong directory or need to change permissions somewhere,

1. Install optware - skip to step 3 if already installed.

2. Reboot through web-interface

3. Once it has re-started, install unzip and nano

ipkg update ipkg install unzip ipkg install nano

4. Make twonky 7 directory

mkdir /twonky7

5. Move to new directory

cd /twonky7

6. Download the zip file from twonky's website

wget http://www.twonkyforum.com/downloads/7.0.5-Special/twonky-mss2-special-7.0.5.zip

7. Unzip compressed file

unzip twonky-mss2-special-7.0.5.zip

8. Move to /etc/init.d

cd /etc/init.d

9. Stop all twonky

./S97twonkyserver stop

10. create backup of twonky 5/6 startup script and remove execute permissions

mv S97twonkyserver S97twonkyserver.backup chmod a-x S97twonkyserver.backup

11. create symbolic link to townky.sh in twonky7 directory and make executable

ln -s /twonky7/twonky.sh S97twonkyserver chmod a+x S97twonkyserver

12. edit startup script to start it correct directory - use nano to edit startup script

nano S97twonkyserver

change line WORKDIR1="/usr/local/twonky" to WORKDIR1="/twonky7"
press Crtl-X to save and exit

13. Start twonky 7

./S97twonkyserver start

If you already have a Twonky 6 license key, then it should work for Twonky 7. Let me know if there are any mistakes above and i will correct it for everyone :) It seems to be working much better than when i first installed it - probably because it was running twonky6 at the same time (forgot to make the script not execute :P).

I had a play with this today, and although it looks different, it ran incredibly slow on my nas (mbwe white). I need to upgrade the firmware soon, so I might try again. Let me know if you want instructions to try for yourself.
