I rebuilt my WBL (1 disk) from a dead HD with debrick.sh . Upgraded Twonky to 8.3 following your guide, Twonky works fine, thank you !

However, GUI from WBL UI was broken and i made changes to many scripts DLNA files in /usr/local/sbin (basically, because i cant' find out why twonky doesn't create /tmp/twonky_server with IP:PORT inside)

also made some changes in share-param.sh (same location) for twonky_dir and in awk line of getDlnaServerConnectedList.sh for new lines in TwonkyIP:9000/rpc/info_connected_clients answer

It was just some garbage tech infos, if someone can find why twonky doesn't create /tmp/twonky_server, this can help.

I recently upgraded townky to version 8.5.1 on my WD MyCloud and now I realized that the upgraded version is only a 30 day trial??? Is there any way I can revert? or does anyone know how to over write the license?

1) If install twonky 8, in the app mycloud I see the photo Thumbnails?

2) in the list twonky/8.5.1/, you advice download twonky-powerpc-glibc-2.2.5, but I see this version WesternDigital MyCloud 04.xx.xx what are the differences?

The script I referred to above seems to download more successfully if you are in the drive's root directory.

I can see the Twonky GUI on NAS-IP:9000 and mess around with it, including entry of the license I have bought!

Remaining question: on my MBLD's original interface, I'm pretty sure I could see, on the Settings>Media page, the option to activate/disable Twonky as well as the WD DLNA. I've read a few posts on here that suggest this is possible, but the link referred to doesn't work.

I guess it's no big deal, as long as I can get into the :9000 page, but it might be helpful to refine the process as far as it can.

I installed V7.0.9 of Twonky. If it's solved my track ordering problem, is there any point installing V8.x and if so, is it straightforward?

Have found my way here after frustration of not being able to get music files on my WD MyBookLiveDuo to serve up in track order via either a QED UpPlay Stream or a Yahama WXAD-10 streamer, rather than alphabetical order.

When I first bought the MBLD, it had the Twonky server built in, but it disappeared after a firmware upgrade and now only offers DLNA, so I'm guessing my drive is suitable for this reinstallation of Twonky server.

I consider myself an above-average user of IT and am happy enough with MS-DOS command line interface so, although I have no experience of Linux, I reckoned I could have a go at following your guide.

I have carried out all the steps with the greatest care but do not have Twonky running.

I can report as follows:

The MBLD does not respond to the browser command you provided: yourip:9000. The IP of my MBLD is 192.168.18.25. If I use this IP address with the 9000 port I get an error page 'refused to connect', even if I am logged in to the user interface. Putty SSH logs in fine.

I tried the stop Twonky command to see if Twonky actually is running and got this response:

MyBookLiveDuo:~# /etc/init.d/twonky stop
-bash: /etc/init.d/twonky: No such file or directory

So I'm guessing my installation is faulty.

Out of interest I took a look at the contents of the Twonky folder, which contains just one file:

MyBookLiveDuo:/var/twonky# ls -a
. .. TwonkyServer

That's about all I can tell you so far. Clearly I have made a mistake somewhere along the line and if you can spare the time to get me back on track I'd really appreciate it.

I think the download of script on my website was wrong, did you get the file via ssh ? Or did you download via another way ? :) (the error seem's like you have a html file download via another way)

What model do you have ? The method work only for MyBook Live 2010-2012 model.

New model are not same OS/linux and may require different startup method.

What I cannot do is to have the new Twonky working automatically, I have to start it manually.

Could you help me to fix this?

For my point of view for the wake problem, I use cover for movies.

For example I have a movie.mkv and movie.jpg

When connect the first time, NAS is sleeping, but it will wake up when try to display the cover, maybe the 3/4 first file will not display but it will wake up the HDD, this is my way to "resolve" this issue.

The only issue right now is that WD doesn't wake up when TV is trying to access Twonky Server. Before it was working fine with old Twonky 5.1. The workaround is to access from my phone or laptop 192.168.1.XXX to wake up WD.

Any help would be appreciated.

Agreed and thank you Dav-M for such a wonderful guide. My MBLD DLNA now works again with this hack.

I have a similar problem as howgie above. I am not sure if its caused by the device going to sleep though.
I will start twonky and the web server running at port 9000 will work. I can see all my movies/music. Then I come back after a while (I have not actually tested how long but so far overnight will cause this problem already) and when I try accessing the twonky server at port 9000 - the web page will just be waiting for respond. It doesn't time out and it doesn't come back with a 404 error. It just sits there waiting…

When I ssh into MBLD, and run 'twonky status', it will show that twonky is running.

When I do a 'twonky restart', the web page will immediately load and I will see everything running again.
If I leave it for a while (overnight) then the same thing will happen.

I am still running twonky on trial and won't buy it if this issue keeps happening.

Does anyone else have the same experience and if so, any way to overcome it?

I do have a question - is there any way to get video thumbnails to display properly? I've done some searching but found nothing conclusive.

Just updated my WD My Book Live to Twonky 8.2 with no problems.

One thing tho: I have a problem that occured some time ago and wasn't fixed by updating to 8.2:
When the NAS goes to sleep the Twonky server doesn't come back after the WD wakes back up again. It just disappears from all of my devices.
The twonky server settings page shows me that the server runs and doesnt' give me a hint why I cannot find it in my network.

The server reappears when I restart it from the twonky settings page or when i uncheck and check the twonky server under the WD settings page.

Any idea whats causing this behavior and how to fix it?

I restored my MBL and reinstalled Twonky 8.1.2. It works now but I am confused because when I go to MBL setting page under Media Server I just get that the server is running but not number of videos or Twonky version. They show on Web interface for Twonky (server version, number of videos and other stuff.

Videos also play on my WD TV Live

Yes I do have serial. I would really appreciate if you tell me in more details with commands for putty (like you did in your excellent manual). I am not familiar with Linux commands so I do not know how to remove it and in what folder.

For me it was working upgrade from ver. 5 to 8. BUT somehow at the setting page I put the password and somehow it is not working (I am pretty sure I did not forget but nevertheless the system won't log me in). Now when I want to do additional setting it always asks for password. I Reverted to old version 5 and reinstalled again ver. 8 but when i want to go to http:\\MyIPNumber:9000/webconfig it asks me for the password.

Can you PLEASE help me to retrieve password using putty or to completely delete ver.8 and reinstall it fresh hoping it will not ask for the password

1. Upgrading from 7.2.9 to 8.0.3 didn't work following the ver 7 to ver 7 (8) instructions as there is no Twonky folder, so I tried the Twonkymedia-7 folder. Seemed to be ok.
2. When starting Twonky I received this error… /etc/init.d/twonky: line 211: /usr/local/twonkymedia-7/twonkystarter: cannot execute binary file

So not sure if it's due to using the wrong zip file or unzipping it in the wrong folder.

Why would there be no Twonky folder yet Twonky was working?

This kind of error is when different hardware is use.

This guide is for myBook, myCloud is different, don't know what version do you need to use.

You need to see the processor model in myCloud and download twonky for this processor.

According http://mybookworld.wikidot.com/my-cloud you need to download for ARM processor.

You have upgrade process for 7.x to 7.xx , use the same for 7.x to 8.x

No myCloud is newer as myBook, don't have one so I can't tell if guide is ok for this model.

I know there are instructions at the start of this thread, however I assume that is for when you have upgraded from 5.x.x to 7.x.x???

Is myCloud the same as myBook - just a different name right?
