How are you planing to controll the voltage to the fan? Do you got a voltage regulator (?) Like those you're getting whit some fan? if so, you could solder (or just use macgyver's method) the wireing to the HDD's molex connectors (as galmiche said) , Between the Yellow and to the nearest black have a level diffrence on 12 V, where the black is ground, and from the red to the other black is 5 volt, where black is ground (0), so if you have an 3 pin fan connector, rip it of, and solder the red on the yellow molex connector, and the black on the nearest black one (of the yellow).

Read:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molex

Yea I see two ways of mounting a fan. One is like yours, cut a hole. The other is put the fan inside at the bottom blowing up and no cutting this way.

Thx, that's exactly what I did.
I digged the cover by a square form then I put a small 30*30*8 @ 12volts fan (permanently soldered to the 12V of the hard disk connector Molex) . Is is a noiseless fan.
Now after 2 hours of full disk usage, the internal reported temperature is close to 45°C.
I think there is now a good air flow inside the box. FYI: The fan direction extracts the internal air.
Sincerelly
Hervé

You can fit a small fan inside. Like a 30x30x12. Don't think there is any fan control unless you add one to the fan. You can have it running constant connecting to 12V.

I confirm that heat_monitor shuts system when disk/environment goes to 70°.

It seems the disk / + Main board goes hotter with v2 that v1 of the firmware. Right?

Disabling tempature monitor stops system shutting down: so It confirm system stops by itself at 70° or so.

Is there a way to put a cooler somewhere, so the fan can be control by the software? I didn't see any way to connect one so it can be software controlled.

Any suggestion?

Thx
Hervé

I have the same result as you…

When i boot the MBWE the temperature was 37, and after a short period of activity the temperature raise up to 59 60 even 62 degrees !!!! which seems me very high ! Moreover, when i shut the MBWE down, the disk is still a little hot… i thought it was totally shut down… but no… i ask this question about the temperature in another post, but still got no answer…

Ciao
Fred

Mine is MBWE 1 v1 too, and i've this result :

194 Temperature_Celsius 0x0022 091 089 000 Old_age Always - 59

Do you know what was the usual temperaure of your mwbe before the firmware update ?

Either temperature reported is not the good one or the disk is really too hot …

Dear All,

All was fine with my MBWE 1 disk v1 software.

I now updated to v2.00.15 then after rather 5 minutes my MBWe itself shutdown due to temperature too high. Thus leds stay all blinking and serial port says disk and system were stopped.
Even if I unplug then replug, same time occurs before auto shutdown.

I queried disk temp monitoring:
[root@MyBookWorld ~]# smartctl -d ata -A /dev/sda | grep Temp
194 Temperature_Celsius 0x0022 080 079 000 Old_age Always - 70

Any idea?
Thanks
Hervé
