There was a lightning strike and it killed the modem and router. None of the PCs on the network were affected, but my My Book World Edition II 1 TB (1000 GB), which was directly connected to the router and located on the same power supply, stopped working. At the time of the lightning strike, the My Book WE II was not on. So I hoped that only the power supply was affected and got a replacement one.
Now when I plug it on, the My Book WE II starts to hum as if it is booting up, but that is all. The green light on front does not turn on. I am not able to access it and the reset does not do anything.
Now I am perplexed as to what to try next.
Can I hook up the hard drives directly to my PC and try to recover the data? Is the problem with the electronics in the housing, so that if I bought another My Book WE II and put the old drives into the new housing, could I then access my data?
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
