I did a few things at once so I do not exactly know what caused the problem. Before in the beginning I had locked myself out of root access.
http://mybookworld.wikidot.com/forum/t-36097/cant-wipe-out-user
i did a firmware upgrade and for the most, got access back.. i gained root access, i unlocked ssh and added optware.
i was going to install the new control panel because i could not edit users and access items. same problem.
well this time i was doing this
http://www.fragmentized.net/content/wd-my-book-world-hacking
the error is in something like this
[root@remotenet lighttpd]# /etc/init.d/lighttpd.sh restart
/bin/sh: cache '/etc/ld.so.cache' is corrupt
Stopping lighttpd
start-stop-daemon: cache '/etc/ld.so.cache' is corrupt
sleep: cache '/etc/ld.so.cache' is corrupt
Starting lighttpd
start-stop-daemon: cache '/etc/ld.so.cache' is corrupt
/usr/sbin/lighttpd: cache '/etc/ld.so.cache' is corrupt

2008-07-25 12:25:53: (server.c.673) Configuration of plugins failed. Going down.
i had a backup from when i was going to do the control panel upgrade, and restored it, but when i restarted thats the error i got "cache '/etc/ld.so.cache' is corrupt"
the olnly think i can think of that might of messed it up is when i installed the alternative control panel which runs on port 8080 but it was not supposed to cause a problem. oh and i can login to ssh with root. but i think it might be read only access? i could not edit or wget a file when i made a attempt.
edit: ok it's a read only file system. what i need to know is how can i recover this without losing my data. i know i'll probally need to buy a sata adapter and get into linux on my computer. could i get a step by step guide? i'm not too good with linux but i can fly it. can mabe i recover this through ssh?
thanks in advance for the help!
