I have recently purchased an empty MyBook World Edition II (from now on: MBWE-II). For now, 1TB of storage would be enough for me (redundancy is not req'd).
So I would like to put a single 1TB disk in my MBWE-II (much cheaper). Is this possible?
Furthermore, I was wondering if the MBWE-II supports an installation of 2 disks that are non-identical (theoretically this should be possible since it uses md for the RAID support). If it can, this would be very nice because I would have a chance of udgrading my MBWE-II if I run low on storage-space.
finally, I am very curious whether using the md JBOD/LINEAR mode is possible. This would allow me to add any size of disk to the array and use all available diskspace (e.g. I could add a 2TB drive in the future to create a 3TB NAS).
Has anyone "invented the wheel" for me already on these three questions? Or is it worth an effort of inventing it myself (and posting results/creating tutorials here)?
