Thanks to our friend fmano, I have found out that some MBWE(-II) models have 64MB of RAM installed. However if you are using firmware version v1.01.18, you are restricted to using only 32M of it.
In version v02.00.18, WDC hacked a probe into u-boot too check for the availability of 64M of RAM, and changes a kernel bootarg if it is available (changes mem=32M to mem=64M). The u-boot bootloader of v02.00.18 can be used to boot the v1.01.18 firmware.
I have extracted the u-boot image from firmware v02.00.18 and made it available HERE (md5-sum: a8ee0c6a9b639c50563f2e9a15b14275). It can be installed on an MBWE by the following commands:
dd if=u-boot.bin of=/dev/sda bs=512 skip=64 #(optional for installing backup-image) dd if=u-boot.bin of=/dev/sda bs=512 skip=10608 #For 2-disk models also: dd if=u-boot.bin of=/dev/sdb bs=512 skip=64 #(optional for installing backup-image) dd if=u-boot.bin of=/dev/sdb bs=512 skip=10608
If you test this bootloader, please post with the following info:
- What model of MBWE you have
- If the bootloader works
- If you have 64MB of RAM
