I was wondering if anyone has experience the following issue: Mbookworld works fine until a machine running Vista 64 bit joins my network, then after about 3 minutes Mybookworld locks up and will not respond. The only way reset it is to pull the power. This issue only occurs when Vista 64 bit joins my network via a wired connection. Machines running Vista 64, joining the network wirelessly do not lock up mybookworld. I called WD and they told me that they don't support any issues concerning Vista 64 bit. In my opiinion a network drive should not lock up no matter what type of devices joins the network. I would appreciate any ideas or insight into how I could resolve this issue.
nice. I had similar problems on vista PC, when connected through one specific switch. after installation of SP1 problem dissapeared. right now I recovered my WD1 and on my pc is vista 64bit, so I am curious, if the problem still persist or not…
Exactly the same problem - although it lasts a bit more than 3 mins - sometimes an hour or so.
Have been using a WD Mybook World Edition 1TB for a year with Windows XP. No Problems. I have not installed and do not use MIONET.
I have just added a new third machine to my network running Vista 64 bit and now after an hour or so all computers loose connection…seems it is only if the Vista machine is running at the time.
oh and i do have SP1 installed
I had this problem with Windows 7 64 and some possibly some Vista 32 machines. Then I disabled:
Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver
Link-Layer Topology Discovery Responder
Items in my network adapter settings, and all seems to be working again. I haven't tested which of these is causing the issue, but suspect it the Link-Layer Topology Discovery items that are not compatible with the version of Samba the MyBookWorld is running.
Upgrading Samba may help, but it's pretty invasive, so can live with disabling this stuff on the client machine adapter for now.
Hope this helps (annoyed me for weeks before I thought of this!).
