I recently bought an MBWE II 1.5 TB drive and set it up in RAID 1 configuration, upgraded the firmware to 02.00.18, enabled ssh and disabled Mionet by commenting it out. So far, so good.
I backed up my internal hard drive to it, albeit slowly (as is the MBWE's want). All went fine. A few days later, I plugged my external USB drive into my Ubuntu 8.04 PC, started rsyncing across to the MBWE, and after an hour or so, the MBWE dropped the network connection and the rsyncing died (no surprise there).
Since then, I have been unable to detect the MBWE on my network. I have reset the drive, to no avail. When I turn the drive on, it sounds like it is booting up - the hard drives spin up, make the usual hard drive sounds that they make when booting an OS, and the blue light comes on as usual. If I unplug the network cable and plug it in again, the hard drive spins up, the blue light dims and then comes back on, and it appears to shut down correctly. However, I have been completely unable to find it on my network. I cannot ping it (or even find it using fping to scan subnets), the web interface won't open and I cannot see it from my router (which I would hope to when I plug it in - but I'm not sure about this bit (I think it should show up)).
Reading up on this site, it sounds like partition 3 may have corrupted. Needless to say, as it's a brand new unit, I am hesitant to open it, but on the other hand don't really want to return it at this stage because it contains a heap of my personal data on it.
Any suggestions as to what else I can try?
