I've been using a WDMBWE for around 9 months and it has worked fine. I use the included memeo software to backup a number of home PC's , while I use superduper from my mac to back that up, plus some general network copying.
I decided to explore the world of hacking the MB as I was a bit concerned about how I'd verify the disk was OK i.e get access to S>M>A>R>T data. I followed the guides and installed sshd - fine
and followed the suggested advice to comment our mionet, which I'd assumed was only used for external access to the device ? However I find that when mionet is not running, memeo crashes on the PC's, so i assume there is a dependency. can anyone confirm this ? I wonder if there is a way of just disabling the external (i.e internet ) access facility while keeping access from my home newtwork. the device is behind a firewall/router and I don't allow access from outside.
memeo gets some abuse, but actually seems to work fine for me, so I'm keen to stick with it, I'd just like to run the WDMBWE with as small a foorprint as possible
