First, I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this site. It's a wonder, and it's made me love my MBWE.
This isn't really an Apple/Mac specific question — it's more about how to generically enable a standard Linux kernel module/option to the MBWE kernel. The module in question is AppleTalk, a now-deprecated networking protocol, like TCP/IP, that was used on earlier Macs (and Apple II's). It's a standard Linux component and the source is in the vendor folder of the WD source distribution.
This is not to be confused with AppleShare, a file sharing protocol like SMB; that's easily provided with netatalk. The issue issue is that with netatalk, i can only run afpd, which is AppleShare-over-IP; I can't run atalkd, which is AppleShare-over-AppleTalk, because AppleTalk isn' t in the kernel. I want to be able to run atalkd.
I am reasonably *nix-capable but I don't know Linux well and I definitely don't know anything about how to compile a kernel. Does anyone have any advice or starting points? Thanks!
