I've been dealing with this issue on this this WD Myworldbook 500GB blue ring drive for over a year and am getting a bit frustrated.
Hoping some of you guys, who are clearly very very smart with Linux, might be able to point me in the right direction.
Everything was working fine - used Mionet for a bit but then hated it and uninstalled - used the WD as a standard NAS using MBW web portal to configure simple shares and a couple of users with permissions to certain shares.
Now, for some reason, I can see the device on the network, and the list of shares, but I can't get into any of them. I get a Windows error saying it cannot access the drive, or if I try from Mac using SMB I get a 'cannot mount the drive' error.
Even when I try to access the 'public' folder.
The guys at WD had me factory reset the device, upgrade the firmware 2.0.18 (I think), reset all the shares so that all users and EVERYONE have access to EVERYTHING and still nothing - can't get into any folder.
I've got important documents and images on this drive and I just don't have the £420 ($600) to pay a data recovery company to get the files off. Especially as I have a hunch that it's just a question of getting in and resetting ownership of the folders.
I did try the instructions on this page:
but the putty wouldn't let me login with the new user I had created.
I'm afraid I'm not familiar with linux (although I can follow instructions and largely figure things out with some pointing).
Has anyone out there seen this and can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance
