I need help.
I have new MyBook in hands, where one HDD crashed and accidentally second HD was formatted outside of MyBook.
It means both HDDs doesn't have any operating system, boot partitions,… they are formatted as single volumes in WinXP.
MyBook is not visible.
WD Support wrote: You cannot exchange both drives at the same time since the operating system for the drive sits with the drives themselves.
I am completely not skilled with Linux, so my question is:
- is it possible to get IMAGE for one HDD (incl. operating system) - it is 500 GB HDD
- is there any possibility to format MyBook HDD on XP ? (with Linux image)
- if not , what to do? …. at least image would help, then I probably find somebody with Linux machine ….
OR ? thanks!
Click the "rescue procedure" link on the left and follow the instructions. It's going to require some linux skills, though. It cannot be done in Windows. Sorry.
I actually just had another user on this forum send me his MBWE2 because he was unable to get it working. I'm very familiar with linux, so I was able to get it going in just a few hours… The problem is that it's hard to troubleshoot over forums because of delays between questions and answers.. I'm not sure I'd have been able to walk the guy who owns this MBWE2 through fixing it himself, but I was able to do it once it was here.
If you know someone with linux knowledge, point him here, and that will give him at least a blueprint on how to go about restoring your drives. He should be able to tailor the commands to what he's familiar with.
