I have been trying to set up private shares using Vista without success. I can create public shares and access them without problems and access the web admin interface. I have tried the LMCompatibility registry change which didn't work. Has anyone managed to get this working.
Anybody able to help with, run of ideas.
I've got the exact same issue. I read on a different thread that it could be caused by norton security crap. It came on mine pre installed but uninstalled it. I don't know if it did a clean uninstall and left behind some settings related to net bios sharing: "She has Norton Protection Centre or something running. In the advanced settings there were a couple of NetBIOS settings and a file sharing setting which were blocked" ([http://mybookworld.wikidot.com/forum/t-38915/vista-mapping-problems-help]).
Let me know if it fixed it for you. I'll keep you posted on that too.
Did see that one but I don't use Norton, currently using Kaspersky but havnet found any similar settings. Tried disabling Kaspersky but still got the same result. I have tried it with Windows 7 RC and it works perfectly, at least I know it will work when that comes out.
You need to lower the security requirement for authenticating within Vista. Vista requires level 3 (?) which you may find in the regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LMCompatibilityLevel. You need to set it to 0x1.
That worked for me !!
