I'm currently in the market for a new printer. I've narrowed the search down to two printers in my price range. One is ethernet enabled, and the the other not, but has extra features I want. Now I have a blue ring MBWE set up doing all sorts of wonderful things, and I'm debating whether to buy the ethernet enabled printer and plug directly into the router, or buy the other printer with the extra features and share it across the network using USB connection to the NAS, + CUPS set up.
I read somewhere (sorry can't find the link again), that the MBWE doesn't work to well as a CUPS server as it doesn't have enough grunt - ie it gets there eventually but takes ages to process a print job. If this is the case I'd probably be more tempted to get the ethernet enabled printer and sacrifice the extra features. Does anyone here have any experience with the performance of the MBWE with CUPS? I'd be wanting to share the printer between a couple windows boxes and a mac via the NAS.
Also, being these printers are both multi-function ones with scanners - does anyone have any experience with SANE via MBWE? (I've seen on other websites that this particular printer works under ubuntu with CUPS and SANE, just more concerned about the performance now.
