Has anyone got XFS working for their storage partition? because I've been reading various things and apparently it should give a significant increase to samba transfers in particular
On the whitelight MBWE the data drive is already xfs… to be honest, I doubt that the partition type makes much difference with both the blue ring and the whitelight because the bottle neck is the processor/memory/network device (both hardware and software).
Also most of the "tests" are nothing like real world end user situations…. unless you have a multi processor, multi terrabyte, multi hard drive network file (or SQL) server system serving data to hundreds of users you're unlikely to see any real difference in speed.
Its also worth noteing that its always safer to turn off disk caching and have a jornaled files system that also journals data as well as meta-data… xfs doesnt do this (only metadata), but ext3 can , I believe, if mounted with the correct options… true it slows things down a bit (maybe 100th a second for most files), but you can worry less about power cuts and system hangs.
