I must have missed something

Hi there:
After backing all my data, I have factory-reset my MBWE while light 1TB last night and re-conf'd it with the Shares etc.
Before I copy all my data back on the drive, I thought I'd give the hack another go.
So, I installed the Optware as in the tut, and I have sudo, bash, less, vim, etc installed, but I can't use them, and it baffles me.
When logged as root, I can use vim and less without no problem.
When logged as another user, I can't.
~ $ pwd
/shares
~ $ vim test
-sh: vim: not found
~ $ ls | less
-sh: less: not found
~ $ sudo vi test
-sh: sudo: not found
And yet more disturbingly, I can't find my /etc/sudoers, even though sudo is meant to be installed.
~ # /opt/bin/ipkg list_installed
bash - 3.2.54-1 - A bourne style shell
less - 444-1 - Less file browser
ncurses - 5.7-3 - NCurses libraries
ncursesw - 5.7-2 - NCurses libraries with wide char support
readline - 6.1-2 - The GNU Readline library provides a set of functions for use by applications that allow users to edit command lines as they are
sudo - 1.8.4.5-1 - System utility to execute commands as the superuser
vim - 7.3-2 - Yet another version of the vi editor.
Successfully terminated.
~ # cat /etc/sudoers
cat: /etc/sudoers: No such file or directory
What am I missing ?
