I want to make backup images (mbr, partition table, …) of my new white light My Book since there are no images available (yet). But I don't have a desktop computer, only a laptop… So I guess it's not possible to make a backup then?? :)

If you had a USB to SATA adapter, you could load a linux live cd on your laptop, connect the drives, and image them that way… AFAIK Linux live CDs have no problems with USB Hard Drive adapters…
If you do this process remember to disconnect all hdd that your windows / linux os is on.
Run ubuntu live cd and hook up your bricked drive and restore the image that way.
Disconnecting the other drives on the computer is not necessary, just make sure you are imaging the right drive.
