I'm considering to buy a 2nd gen. 1TB "My Book World Edition" external hard drive to hook up to my 100mbps home router. The main goal is to store videos on the drive and stream them via a network share to my old XBOX which serves as my media streamer. Currently, when streaming video files this way from my latop via a wireless connection, the stream is just fine (considering the videos are not HD).
My question - is the device fast enough for me to stream videos from it via a 100mbps ethernet hookup? What if the videos are High Definition, will it be fast enough for those?
Has anyone measured the actual transfer rates that the 2nd gen MBWE delivers? I assume they're far lower than the advertised "1000 Mb/s capable".
