hello when i'm looking in /etc there is no crontabs folder. why? i checked optware and cron is succesfully installed.
It's a file called "crontab" not crontabs and it's in /opt/etc
There's a folder called cron.d and that one is also in /opt/etc
[root@MyBook2 ~]# ls -al /opt/etc/cron* -rw------- 1 root root 536 Aug 9 15:44 /opt/etc/crontab -rw------- 1 root root 150 Mar 26 05:07 /opt/etc/crontab.org /opt/etc/cron.d: total 12 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 9 15:44 ./ drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Aug 21 21:46 ../ -rw------- 1 root root 74 Aug 9 15:44 logrotate
okay thank you for your help.
i read something about the root file in the contab folder, but there is no root file why?
There's also an /opt/var/run/crontabs directory….
If you run 'crontab -e' vi gets launched and you can create cronjobs.
Do NOT specify the user in the file…..
A file called root will then be created in that directory…
I noticed this directory has different names and places depending on the linux distro…
This folder's called "/var/spool/cron" on my Fedora core
okay when i run the cronjob -E and and try to add my the file mycron.txt to the crontab file by typing crontab mycron.txt it shows the following error
crontab: unable to open mycron.txt
crontab: unable to read replacement file
what am i doing wrong?
