I have recently bought an MBWE II, 2Tb. I'm quite impressed so far, I use it on a Linux only
SoHo network and it's really easy to set up and access using the Web configuration and ssh
to the command line. (I'm an ancient Unix user, started back in the 1980s, I've been a software
developer since around 1970 so the command line is 'home' to me).
Is there any way one can disable RAID completely on the MBWE II? I can see some advantage
in mirror or stripe modes with RAID but it seems to me that if I go to JBOD or span so that I can use
2Tb of storage then RAID makes it more risky that it would be otherwise as if *either* disk fails then
all the data becomes inaccessible.
I'd rather split the two disks, make one accessible to the outside world and then do internal backups
of the really important data from one disk to the other.
So I'd like to simply have two disk volumes available to do what I want with.
