A second question about my new MBWE II, this time relating to DHCP.
I have a local DHCP server on my SoHo network, several other machines on the network
are DHCP clients and they all register their hostnames as one would expect. E.g. there
is a machine called 'maxine' and one called 'C475IP', once they have connected I can
access them simply by name, maxine or C475IP. I can also use the full name which is
maxine.isbd.net or C475IP.isbd.net (you won't be able to see them from the outside world
though you can see isbd.net and also home.isbd.net).
However my MBWE II insists on appending .local to its hostname. I have renamed the
system to 'garage' (because it lives in our garage!) but on the network I have to use the
name garage.local to access it.
The file /etc/resolv.conf on the MBWE looks OK, it has:-
so it knows the domain is isbd.net but its DHCP client is misleading/confusing my DHCP
server for some reason.
Has anyone any ideas why this might be or any pointers to information that might help?
