A while ago I purchased a MyBook World Edition II 1 TB edition and then mirrored the drives which reduced the capacity to 500 GB. Now I need more space and with WD drives dropping in price every day it wouldn't be much of an expense to jump from 500 GB mirrored to 1.5 TB mirrored.
Has anyone here attempted this before? Could I just swap one drive and rebuild the array and then swap the other drive and rebuild again? From what I understand the device does not contain any internal flash memory for Linux, Apache, web interface, etc. so these are all stored on the drives themselves and I'm concerned about turning the device into a brick.
I realize that the purpose of the external USB port was for expansion but I'd rather not purchase another external RAID device; they're fairly pricey so simply swapping the drives for larger ones seems like the best option and it conserves desk space. :-)
