I've searched through this forum and found several people asking the same questions, but no answers… I've got the alternative/runpath firmware installed, which includes the latest hdparm… set up the smart_spindown and the ramdisk and almost never hear/see my drive spin down. I think it spun down ONCE when I wasn't testing the smart_spindown script manually … and whether I'm testing it or it magically happens, it spins back up within a second - 30 seconds … never stays down long.
the block_dump shows almost exclusively kjournald and md3_raid1 entries, occasionally I see an entry for sync or syslogd (I can probably make this use the ramdisk, no? anyone done this with the runpath enabled firmware?).
What does this raid service do on a one disk drive?
Why is this journaling happening so often?
Somebody help me solve this or tell me that they've gotten their 500G blue ring to spin down and stay down.
