I just bought the drive. I was curious what I could make hacking the drive worth it ? I run a Ubuntu system

But seriously, you should consider reading up on this drive first before throwing this question out. That you way you can get more ideas and the purpose of hacking.
By hacking, it's actually opening up the power of this box. You can keep it stock if you prefer, but after what you found out, there is no reason to go back to stock.
Of course heading towards the hacking way is uncharted territory and does have it's risks. So tread slowly and at your own pace.
