I have just purchased the WD MYBook World Edition (1 TB version) and all seems to be progressing ok at this stage. When doing a bit of research for my purchase I stumbled upon this site. My query is where do users stand if they choose to add an app to the mybook considering the default firmware gives ssh access? For example, I would like to look at adding a torrent client. Would WS then reject a warranty claim if the unit had a hardware fault? Anyone had cause to talk to WD about this? Many thanks for your time.
Since the drives are relatively easy to recover I would guess that they would simply send you instructions on recovering the drive if you mess it up with SSH, I very much doubt you will be able to permanantly brick the drive using just SSH, after all, they made it very easy to hack by adding an SSH tickbox to the config pages.
