iTunes Server

I'm not sure I understand how the iTunes Server functionality of the MBWE works. Here is my setup:

MBWE I (White Light) with the following customizations:
- Installed prep_whitelight script (without crond changes)
- Installed CUPS
- Installed Transmission.

On my admin page it appears that the iTunes server is enabled.
My client machine is a MacBook Pro running the latest version of iTunes.

I placed some songs in the Shared Music folder, and when I launch iTunes it shows MyBookWorld on the left-hand side. Unfortunately, when I click on it I don't see any of the songs I placed in the directory. I don't get any error messages or anything, though.

Do I need to do something else? Did the customizations I made somehow break the iTunes Server functionality, or am I just doing something wrong?

I didn't have to do anything with cups, all i did was put my music into the Public/Shared Music and opened up iTunes and had all the music right there.

How are your scanning intervals configured for the iTunes server? Maybe the index hasn't been built up the time you connected to the MBWE.

This may have been it. I disabled/enabled the service last night, and then changed the interval from 30 minutes to 5 minutes. I checked back later in the evening and my songs showed up, so that was good.

So now I have another question:

Is it safe to just copy my entire library onto Public/Shared Music? It's already on an external drive, but this would still be a slightly different setup, and I'm wondering if it can be used in basically the same manner? Will my DRM-purchased music still play and let me sync to my iPod from those files, etc?

yes, that's how my iTunes is set up, all my music still plays fine, you just want to make sure you have your MBWE on a static IP otherwise it will mess up a lot

Cool thanks, it is on a static IP so I should be good there. Can't wait to try it out this weekend!

One more question: Is there a way to make it so that my iTunes client on my laptop could access the files hosted on the MBWE over the internet?

that im not sure about that, i havent gotten around to that yet, you can access the drive by FTP over the internet. I have heard people talk that you can access the file by tonky over the internet, but you will not be able to play the DRM songs.
