I had a 1TB MyBook that failed to power up. After reading all the great HowTo's, I decided to use Ubuntu to do a recovery of the data on the two hard drives.
I installed Ubuntu on a spare hard drive that I had, plugged both of the MyBook hard drives into my desktop motherboard, and powered-up.
After loading the mdadm package into Ubuntu and after rebooting, Ubuntu showed the two drives and all the RAID partition information. I did all of this using the package manager in the GUI.
Ubuntu showed a 992GB Linear Array (/dev/md4) and I sucessfully mounted the drve. Opening the drive the following folders were listed…
DATA <— I created this folder using the MyBook interface before it failed
GHOSTIMAGES <— I created this folder using the MyBook interface before it failed
However, when trying to open DATA folder , Ubuntu reports that "You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents"
I'm not a familar with Ubuntu and I thinking all I need to do is change the permissions on the folder. I look at the DATA folder properties to change permissions but Ubuntu will not let me change them.
Any help on changing permissions on the folder???
