first of all I am a newbie to linux and am self taught …i have found my way into the device via putty and logged on as root and changed the ip address using ifconfig command but this does not save the setting and i have been looking for the file that the setting are saved in. i can set the ip address long as i do not reboot the unit …. can anyone assist please…
Why don't you just use the standard webinterface?
i have tried the standard web interface and it returns and error "invalid ip"… but its with in the same segment…..dhcp it gets ip 150.nnn.nnn.104 but when i give it 150.nnn.nnn.4 i get an error
We'll start with the trivia… the best thing you can do is to configure your router to give the specific IP address to the MBWE based on its MAC address
I just solved the same problem myself. You want to edit the file: /var/oxsemi/network-settings
hostname=MyBook network_mode=static revert_to_dhcp=no static_dns1=192.168.1.254 static_dns2= static_dns3= static_gw=192.168.1.254 static_ip=192.168.1.10 static_msk=24 static_ntp= workgroup=MSHOME
If network_mode is set to dhcp, it will use dhcp. If it's set to anything else (static for example), it will use whatever static IP settings you fill in. static_gw & static_dns1 must be the IP of your router.
After you change your settings, you can apply the change by running /etc/init.d/network_control.sh restart
Be careful because if you enter the wrong settings, you could make your MyBook inaccessible over the network.
