Ok so Twonky 5 is not so bad but it is rather annoying that it does not play MKVs natively. Also, using a PS3 as your media player via this NAS Twonky install will not work with VC1 because of the PS3 and nor will it stream DTS (because of the PS3 as well). What would be swell is an alternative media server that would transcode VC1 and DTS but even if there was one, I am not sure this NAS box would have the horse power to do it. Thoughts?
ipkg install mediatomb
the horse power to do it
I don't think
Correction, the latest updates of the PS3 will play VC1, it just won't play VC1 with any multichannel audio. You have to have VC1 with straight stereo for it to work. It plays H.264/AC3 just fine though. It is always SOMETHING!
An update for you….So I recoded an m2ts file (VC1 codec) without audio to see if the PS3 would truly play VC1 in an m2ts container via Twonky. Nope. Didn't work. I am rather puzzled. Any ideas? I am trying different containers now to see if it is a container issue with Twonky.
