I have a brand new 4TB MBWEII (just bought it today) which works pretty well, excepting the part where it will frequently hang up (no response anymore from HTTP, SSH, or as a network share), and require an unplug/re-plug to get running again. I'm not sure what the cause is, exactly - it definitely happens when copying data onto it, but since that's all I've been trying to do since I got it, that doesn't really narrow it down.
I checked smartctl for the drives, and while the temperature is high (53 celsius), this doesn't seem to be a factor in the crashing as best I can tell (in fact, the first time I checked SMART, it reported 58. I got a bit of air movement on it and it started to cool down…10 minutes later it crashed)
I have disabled the iTunes functionality, as well as FTP, NFS, and AFP (and, to aid troubleshooting, enabled SSH), but otherwise I don't think I've modified any of the built-in settings (not that I'd expect any of them to cause crashing).
The only thing that I can see in the logs that might be an indicator is lines similar to the following:
12/28 23:40:02 Moviestore daemon.err mountd: Caught signal 15, un-registering and exiting.
12/28 23:39:14 Moviestore daemon.info afpd: shutting down on signal 15
…though I'm not sure if those are before or after (or during) the crash (or even if they happen at every crash).
In short - I poked around the wiki but was unable to find any information specific to the white-light version with regards to crashes, and I have no idea what is going on - does anyone know of any causes/fixes for this? Or at the very least, are there any additional steps I can follow to try to dig in and figure this out?
