I would like to compare some average times regarding my World Edition II 1,5TB with you to get an idea if my times are normal.
If I start the NFS server via the script provided by tgwena on the first page of the WD forum thread, the server starts without error messages in about 2 minutes 35 seconds. If every deamon is started manually, rpc.mountd needs 2 minutes 29 seconds, the other deamons all start in about one to three seconds. My guess is that there are some errors regarding rpc.mountd which are not printed out in the console. Is there a log-file somewhere?
After the NFS server was (presumably) up an running, I tried to export a test directory (/test/), owned by root with 777 rights with "exportfs 192.168.1.1:/test/" to my default linux box. I got no error messages, but the exportfs process took about 3 minutes 29 seconds and if I tried to see the exports with showmount no exports were shown. I presume the nfs server is not running properly but have no idea what to do to get it up and running.
On a different note, when logging onto the drive via ssh it takes me about 30 seconds from entering the password to getting a promt at the console. Is that a average time because the encryption process takes up so much processor time or is there a problem as well?
Thank you for any suggestions, it seems I have hit my linux talent wall and got stuck in it head first. :)
