Ok, all of a suddent my entire drive decided to make everthing read only and i can't change it back. any ideas to change it back? i've already right clicked and went to properities and unchecked the read only, but it still didnt work
I agree - reboot and remount the drive and see if it helps anything. You didn't mention, but how is the drive mounted? From Windows, Mac? via SMB? This does make a difference. If via windows did you install the WD software, or are you just connecting via the "network places" section?
If you checked everything and you're certain it is the fault of the NAS, then login as root and issue this command on one of yout folders on the NAS:
#chown -R www-data:www-data /shares/internal/foldername <enter>
explanation of code: this command sets the owner of the folder and the files inside to be the default for the NAS www-data
Then you can change permissions if you like.
#chmod 664 /shares/internal/foldername/file
Try the file or folder you had problems with. If it still doesn't work, then unmount and remount your NAS from your PC and try writing to and deleting a test file from the folder again. It should be ok after that. If not, keeping digging for answers here in the wiki.
I have tried rebooting the nas, didn't work. at first i thought it was just my www folder, but now that i look at everything it is every single folder. I will try your command later today and let you know what it says.
Great. I really hope that fixes your issues. Please remember to update us so others can benefit from your questions. :-)
Together, we're all making this device a LOT better than it was out of the box! :-)
I tried to just reboot my drive, didn't work, so I was able to ssh my way in and figured out the in my WWW folder, everything was changed to chmod 700, don't know why or how that happened, but was able to change back the www-pub folder to 775 and that all worked. Although teniterman might need to let me know if chmod 700 is ok on the www-priv folder or if I should change that to 775.
