I have the Blue ring edition with FW 01.01.18.
I was following the guide to upgrade to openssh and ultimately activate SAMBA again: http://mybookworld.wikidot.com/forum/t-219027/
I had gotten to the point where I rebooted the device after editing the /etc/inetd.conf file. Whether it was a typo on my behalf or an incorrect path given, I should have checked the program path before rebooting. But I didn't and now SSH is gone. I still have share access to the share folders in the drive through NFS and access the Shared Storage Manager to update the firmware again if necessary.
Does anyone here know how I can recover SSH? I have the feeling I'll need to either update the firmware again, or take the drive out and put it in my Linux box. I prefer the path of least resistance, but would like to know my options. Can any Linux/MBWE wizards here give me a (hopefully better) third option?
If it does come down to updating the firmware again, does that mean that all the customizations I've done will be lost and I start from the same point when I first applied the firmware update? Or will some of my changes still exist and still have no SSH after changing the firmware?
