I've done some searching, but found less threads on this topic than I expected to, and wasn't sure any of them were definitive.
I have one dead drive in my blue-rings 1TB WEII. Fortunately the first thing I did when I got it was change to RAID1. :-)
What I think I need to do is:
— Buy any WD 500GB HDD (I think I've read that other brands/sizes are doable, but with complications) I'm specifically looking at this one based on a post I found here, but if anyone can give me reasons why some other model is a better choice, I'm happy to hear them. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136358
— Follow the disassembly/reassembly instructions here: http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1464 I thought I had seen a warning on their site about not removing the drive from its caddy, but I presume that this assumes I'll be getting a new drive, in-caddy, from WD, which I will of course not be doing.
— Follow the instructions to rebuild the array here: http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1496&p_sid=*czeHZ-j&p_lva=1464
Are these the correct steps, and does anyone have any particular warnings about the drive I'm looking at, or the procedure in general?
