Our MBWE broadcasts it's presence on the zeroconf/bonjour .local domain. This means that it "just shows up" if you're running mac osx. By default no specific model name is specified which means that you'll get the generic icon (mac screen with blue desktop) when browsing your mac. The broadcast is provided by mDNSResponder and can easily be modified to broadcast as any model defined by our macs in /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Info.plist.
The mDNSResponser config is located at:
By adding this line you'll be able to change the icon (reboot is probably needed to make it work properly after model change). Note that this example line assumes your device name is MyBookWorld, change this to match your device.
"MyBookWorld" _device-info._tcp local. 1 "TXTVersion=1.0" "model=Xserve"
It's also possible to "hard change" the broadcast name for the different types. I did some very limited testing and it seems to work just fine but if you want to change the device name you're better off using the web GUI.
The provided line sets your MBWE to broadcast it would be Xserve. There's a lot of model icons available, mainly these:
Xserve (same a RackMac)
There is a lot of submodels defined. But for those you’ll have to look in the plist on your mac.
