I have had my My Book World Edition II 2TB (WDH2NC20000) drive for about 6 months with no problems and recently the network has begun to fail at least once a day. The symptoms are:
I am no longer able to access my mapped network drives
I can no longer access the shares via standard smb with \\nas (My Book is named "nas")
I can no longer ping nas
I CAN ping the static IP I assigned to the drive (192.168.1.77)
Trying to access the control panel via the web at http://192.168.1.77 just spins and never connects
The WD Discovery tool does not see the drive.
The only solution to this is to hard reboot the drive by holding down the power and then powering it up again.
After this, the drive works perfectly. Al the above symptoms are fixed. All is accessible.
I receive an email with subject "Network Link event from NAS" and message "NIC 1 link is down."
Ultimately this happens again with the next 24 hours. I have tried static ip and dhcp. The drive was set with dhcp until this started happening and I needed a static ip to ping.
I thought perhaps the issue was with my router and I reset my router to factory settings and still have the problem.
I checked the logs in the admin and there is nothing to see there except for the shutdown and boot when I do the hard reset.

The only item in the WD knowledge base that even comes close is this one:
I tried the instructions here with no success.
I'm out of ideas at this point. Please help.
