How can I connect MBW II directly to my PC's ethernet port, because I don't have any router to assign it an ip. I have not used drive since I bought it. I have tried many solutipns but without a router I cannot do anything to work it. I have tried DHCP server software but it assign ip to my ethernet card not to MBW connected to it. Is there any Solution that I have passed over? Thank you.
Install a DHCP server on your computer. (the one you tried should have allowed the mybook to request an ip when the mybook starts)
If you don't want a perm change, load a linux live cd (ubuntu would be fine)
and install a dhcp server… let your mybook request an ip from it, just plug it in and start mybook.
Then go in web interface of mybook (look on dhcp table for its ip) and make it a static one….
just plug the ethernet cable into the world book and then your pc.
Turn on the wolrd book, and wait for it to book- then just access the web interface
via your web browser with the addresss "mybook" or "mybookworld" etc.
You will need a special cable to connect to Mybook without a router, it is called an ethernet cross over cable, that looks the same as the ethernet cable that comes with Mybook, but has diffrent connections from inside. You will also need a DHCP server running on your PC to assign an IP to Mybook.
umm… RT' 'M!!!
You don't need a dhcp server running, and you don't need to assign an ip address to the myBook
- it already has one. This is all in the manual.
Skip all the chapters on Mionet, and just go to Troubleshooting (Chapter 8) in my manual.
Just plug the ethenet cable into pc and then mybook.
Turn on mybook , then pc. Wait about 3 mins and open browser to "mybookworld" or whatever you mybook is called.
You can then just map a network drive to \\mybookworld\public
no dhcp needed, no router needed, and certainly no mionet needed
