I contacted WD tech support about using a MyBook Mirror edition as the external USB drive plugged into a white-light MyBook World mirrored 2Gig drive (all white lights may be mirrored, so that information may be redundant <eg>). I was informed that it could, but only if it was configured to be one large drive, not mirrored. I explained what I wanted to do several times trying to make sure that he understood that I wanted an external drive that mirrored itself just like the white-light did not mirror the white-light drive. I asked why this would not work, and the answer basically was "just because".
This sure seems like a great upgrade to the white-light, the external drive would give the same real time "backup" that the white-light does. I'm not sure why WD say this will not work. I asked and was told that the mirror edition would plug into my computer the same as any other USB drive, no additional software required. Seems that either that is not true or it should work with the white-light just fine.
Anyone familiar with both of these units and able to shed any light?
