As many others did before, I managed to brick my mybook while attempting to get Spindown working…
Doing so I wanted to follow one of those rescue procedures but got a few questions I didnt manage to get answers…
First I wanted to do a hard reset, unpluging cords, pressing reset for 40 second once power plug plugged, no effect, got the top and botton led from the white stripe blinking altenatively, I got no clue of what that means.
Next, I thought of opening the device but its still under warranty and at this point losing my data is no big deal, so is there a risk of voiding my warranty when oepening ? I didn t see any warranty seal but I d prefer to be sure, next, can someone make a "dd" image of a clean 1TB whitelight mybook ? That would be the easiest way to recover everything at no risk, except the MAC adresse but it seem that the trick is well known.
Last question, will WD void warranty because I installed optware and so on ? How mush would you rate the risk of having to pay for the repair ?
