I was full of hope when I read in here that someone managed to compile Python on the MBW. Too bad he didn't leave a howto ;)
I am planning to install Python to run Edna, the streaming http server. I set about to compile Python with what little knowledge I've aquired, and it didn't really work out well. Here's what I did:
# cd /tmp/myfiles # wget http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.5.1/Python-2.5.1.tgz # tar -zxvf Python-2.5.1.tgz # cd Python-2.5.1 # ./configure # make # make install
make seems to create a set of errors that I can't really figure out (it takes a good hour to make the install). make install seems to work fine. I then went on to install Edna as a daemon, and it appeared to work, but reports error in several lines of the python-script. Here's my Edna install:
# cd /tmp/myfiles # wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/edna/edna-0.6.tar.gz # tar -zxvf edna-0.6.tar.gz # cd Edna-0.6 Now edit edna.conf to suit your needs (path to mp3's, username/password etc.) # make install-daemon
The problem is with Python, so much I've gathered. Does anoyone have a recipe for compiling and installing Python correctly?
