My MBWE (white light) has stopped working and the local retailer that handles my warranty is clueless - They won't help me recover my data and only offer to replace the unit with a product from another manufacturer.
The symptoms: When the device starts up, I hear the drive start spinning but the white light remains stuck at the bottom third of the stripe and never moves. The device is unavailable on my LAN. My router doesn't even assign it a DHCP address. Pressing the power button has no effect. The only way to turn it off is to unplug it. I've tried the reset button but to no avail.
My first priority is to recover the data on the drive - Is there any way for me to access it without opening the case? If I do open the case - can the retailer tell? They said that if I open the case myself then that would void my warranty.
