I am new to this forum and I am not very used to linux.
I have installed VSFTPD using Optware. The installation went fine and I can access my MyBook using an sftp client (FileZilla or WinSCP).
But I want to be able to access my drive using ftp through Windows Explorer without any additional software.
I have not managed to do this.
It is definately something with the security settings. Can anyone walk me through how to configure VSFTPD to enable Windows Explorer ftp access?
I would be very greatful! :-)
Why exactly using ftp?
More common access method would be to use normal network share running samba on your NAS.
Is it even built-in in your NAS.
I use a normal network share in my local network.
The ftp is so I can access my files easy over the internet.
I like the way ftp normally works directly with Windows Explorer without using any additional software.
I am not so concerned about the security issues.
have you tried to look into the logs to see why it is failing?
As a side note, FTP is great when you are transferring large files, the overhead of SMB is alot higher which means the speeds tend to be faster over FTP.
Thanks for trying to start to help me!!
I think this is my problem:
vsftpd is not running at all due to missing link to library libssl.so.0.9.8
The library is located here:
Here is a similar thread: http://mybookworld.wikidot.com/forum/t-171729/vsftpd-still-missing-lib
I did the ldconfig steps mentioned on the optpage: http://mybookworld.wikidot.com/optware
Like in the other thread no success with the ldconfig steps.
How can I tell vsftpd the location of the library?
(I think sftp works because of a built in sftp service on the mybook or something similar)
Thanks in advance!
