My iTunes stopped working with my MBWE NAS last fall. I thought it was a problem with my NAS or the number of songs I had on the NAS, but I now understand that iTunes 10 is not compatible with Firefly. On Apple's support forum, there is a whole thread dedicated to this issue (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2564925&start=0&tstart=0).
Someone has posted a patch to Firefly here (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2564925&start=60&tstart=0) while others have suggested installing forked-daapd. There were also some posts suggesting that more recent versions of iTunes may have fixed the problem, at least for some operating systems.
I am running Firefly on my Western Digital MyBook World Edition (white light). I am running iTunes 10.1.2.17 on a Windows 7 laptop. Can anyone offer me some specific advice on whether iTunes 10 should now be working on my configuration or whether some patch or forked-daapd might fix my problem?
I believe the Firefly media server is still running correctly. I have gone in and deleted Firefly's database and it re-builds the database correctly, so I think Firefly is running correctly.
So, given my configuration, should iTunes see the shared Firefly library on my NAS? If so, any guesses as to why it can’t? If not, will the patch that was mentioned previously work for me?
If I need to apply the patch or forked-daapd, can someone please post a more detailed explanation of how to apply the patch or install forked-daapd? I’m not totally hopeless with Linux, but I need a little more detail than what I saw in this thread.
