I've broken half of my system trying to update system via aptitude. Can anyone share their backup, please?
I've got 2TB version.
What are your symptoms first ?
Do you have access to SSH ? if yes may be you should look to this post :
Anyway tell us more so we could understand your problem and know if and how you solved it.
Which 'aptitude install <packages> half broke your system.
If you cannot access to http://yourIP/UI with php messages then it comes from PHP 5.3 upgrade
not compatible with the "cake" 1.2.6 version installed by WD (easy to solve).
Don't use the above update and as first solution copy/paste to your command line :
echo "error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE & ~E_DEPRECATED" > /etc/php5/conf.d/cake_1.2.6.ini
By the way there is a new MyBook Live section in the Hacks & Tutorials
It was aptitude safe-upgrade which caused this. New version of udev didn't work properly and I couldn't get to my /dev/sda4. Now, however, I've solved it. Web UI still doesn't work, but I don't think I need it anyway.
Has just restored udev, samba and transmission. Even though aptitude and few other system parts still don't work properly.
Then you can use the fake restore firmware.
You should not lose you data it is a simple upgrade from the last installed firmware image
You can check to see if the image is available in your system at
Like other firmware upgrade you will lose your own installed packages
I can't do it because of lots of errors:

There as been 2 people who recently had Pb apparently with 'udev' upgrade
Can these people confirm that the pb is solved with 'udev' reinstallation of the original.
I remember having read the your can mark the package as not upgradable.
Does anyone knows how-to ?
I will add the result in the list of 'pbs linked to packages upgrade' on the MyBook Live How-To page
This can be simply done with
MyBookLive:/# aptitude hold udev
